Yes, it was made to control large groups of people and to profit at the same time. It's a marketing scheme.

Think of all the rosarys, crucifixes, and bibles sold to people. Just so that they feel secure or safe.

This is the same concept as Michael Jackson passing away and people immediately selling shirts and caps on him. Sure they're honoring his life, but are they really doing it for that? Nah, they're doing it for money.
