I'm very much the same. The mainstream Rap/hip hop doesn't interest me in the least. I prefer mine raw and dirty,Hip hop with a message. That being said I dig a lot of the left of center artists such as Sage Francis,El-P etc as well. If it isn't dumbed down commercial garbage,There is a good chance i will appreciate it.
