Verizon cleared permission from George Lucas (Star Wars creator) to name their phones DROID, since DROIDs already existed in Star Wars
Nexus is a term used in cell biology.
Spectrum involves wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation ..in other words rainbows are just different colors of the spectrum shown through light

People name products on what is big in the media, this whole end of the world or the whole 'out of this world' concept is a HUGE factor when naming products.
I know about this shit, they keep their branding current and what's happening at the moment. All it takes is for one company to do it and the rest will follow. They may have even done it without 100% noticing, from being influenced by the media... wouldn't say there was a message there... just good marketing.
