The prior administrations were doing the same exact things that he has been suggesting, but there was no outrage towards it in the slightest, so I feel people are being a bit hypocritical about it now when they stood in silence towards the same issue years ago.

Can you provide proof that previous administrations separated detained immigrant families? I've heard that that's untrue. I am asking about both the situation and the backlash.
You think they are using their kids to cheat their way into the country? Do you agree that these people are fleeing atrocities in their homeland? If so, are they supposed to leave their kids behind? I understand what you're saying about going though the normal process but....how long does immigration applications normally take to process and is that feasible for someone who's in a desperate situation and who has to protect their family right now?
