I've received threatening emails from Lion's Gate before about pirating their films, got computer viruses more than a few times from downloaded files, and even once got hacked from using a proxy list on emule. You just got to be smart about it. These days, don't even visit a torrent site or use a torrent client unless you are behind a VPN. Don't open any files until you've scanned them with a good anti-virus, and learn how to use tools like Sandboxie.
