These messages have a lot of truth behind them, but they stop being "facts" as soon as the sweeping generalizations about groups of people start being made. We tend to forget about the complexities of the individual human. You know what ALL black have in common? They're all black, nothing more. ALL white people? They're just all white. And even that can be broken down into different skin tones if you want to nitpick. Nothing else can be attributed to every single member of a group apart from whatever it is you use to describe the group.
That being said, one could still demonstrate some trends or patterns in any given culture or group of people. That's where the difficulty comes in, I think. It's sometimes hard to separate individuals from the groups to which they belong because of the fact that large percentages of each group often share similar traits. Just remember that these large percentages are never 100%, and sometimes the common stereotypes don't even fit half of the people in a group.
