That's what I figured, but there is also an Japanese counting system which is quite different.
I don't know the real differences between the two in use, as I don't speak Japanese.

I like the fact that words don't leave their pronunciation in different forms. It makes it a lot easier to speak.
For example, in English, the word "see"

The verb completely changes pronunciation in past tense.
Consider this to "estar"
Estoy
Estuve
Estaba
Estaria
Estare
Spanish verbs always keep the same stem, only changing the ending.
it makes spanish a much easier language.
