@ IV it was an innovative step, but to a huge amount of people one that cost them everything.
She called Mandella a terrorist lol. Of course, that's only a tiny anecdote next to the significant things she did and the devastation her politics caused a lot of people.

I've been having discussions on Facebook all day about this. Yeah she did a lot of bad things, but it wasn't her as an individual she was just the leader of the party, would England really have let one woman make all the decisions back in the 80s? No way

If you think not then you weren't around during her tenure. She was the most powerful premier since Churchill.
She did a lot of good, and a lot of bad. She'll always have a mixed legacy. RIP tho./

This pretty much. Her party had a lot to do with it too of course: the Tory government as a whole now aren't much better really, it's purely their philosophy; it's only a matter of time before they meet the same fate.
The poll tax caused them to implode the first time, I'd wager bedroom tax will cause it this time around.

If she was that bad why did she get reelected twice? I think that's the main thing I don't understand. Imagine having to try and keep millions and millions of people happy, I don't think she deserves all the burn in hell and glad she's dead type statuses and tweet etc, I'm sure she lived with knowing she did long enough and that was probably punishment enough

George Bush Jr. got re-elected with the highest number percentage of all time. How do people perceive him?
She didn't live with any issues. If you can give anything to someone like Margret Thatcher, she would have always believed in her decisions.

She was re-elected twice, but she was also overthrown by her own party and forcefully removed from power.
A phoney war in the Falklands, the Belgrano, letting 10 men starve to death in prison who only wanted political status (one of which was an MP may I add), closing hundreds of mines, the print industry, shipbuilding, steel, car manufacturing, motorcycle manufacturing, her peripheral role in hillsborough, her stated intention for the "planned demise of Liverpool" and the north, her hatred for trade unions, the list goes on and on and on.

@ IV - The fact that Thatcher had a cunt is less important than the fact that she was one.
@ Askari - I think you caved in to JustC's questioning a little too much - I don't think your OP was too harsh at all. It was Thatcher's ideology and actions which created the conditions of unemployment, poverty and degradation in traditionally industrial areas.
Now I'm writin this I can't remember who said this, but whoever it was who said about her rep in the US being positive because she shared right-wing US values, you're right.
Thankfully now he body will be come as rotten as her policies.

@ Askari out of all the people on Letsbeef I respect your opinion the most which you probably know so don't take offence at all. I've finally got round to speaking to my Mum who would have been working class at the time and she's explained to me while people hate her and predicted the exact demographic that would be most happy she's dead, but when I initially asked her her thoughts on Mags she said "rest in peace to a great lady" and trust me, my Mum doesn't like that many people at all lmao.
She explained to me that the minors went on strike, and she let them go on strike instead of just caving in and as a result of that a lot of people lost a lot of things. I know there's a LOT more to it than just that of course but because the government "beat the union and the minors at their own game" doesn't mean she should be nationally hated by certain areas.
Maybe in 30 year we'll look back on this war in Iraq as pointless and just a death sentence, who knows!
She did a lot of bad for the country but she also did a lot of good and everybody who I've spoken to over the age of 35 are sad to see the amount of hate she's getting from people who didn't experience the good she did for our country first hand.
I've not said anybody is wrong because I don't have a clue, I just think after speaking to people who witnessed it all first hand I think all these street parties celebrating her death are disgusting.
Before she died I always thought when she died it was going to be a very sad day, which is why I've been so interested in finding out more haha. Sorry how your family was affected and this isn't any disrespect to anybody. At least she had the balls to actually TRY and do something instead of just chillin watching everything fall apart like our current leaders lmao

IV, at the same time, Askari DID say "Scotland, Ireland and Wales hate her" for a reason. Your asking your English mum about an iconic English figure.
@ Askari, was the 10 men that died the Bobby Sands shit? If they died during a hunger strike, that has NOTHING to do with her. Their decision.
