really? u feel that strongly about someone who hasn't been in power for roughly 30 years and was probably 2 young to have felt the effects or probably wasn't even born to witness her decisions first hand. She wasn't Genghis Khan.

I had family left homeless and unemployed as a result of her, so yeah, I do feel this strongly about it.

Her disregard for Scotland as a whole is common knowledge, but her disregard to industry was even more baffling. There were several factories in dundee and the surrounding shut down during that time - along with mining towns etc, a lot down to the increase of "indirect taxation" among several other things - that lead to mass unemployment. With this came the benefit cuts and privatisation; those newly unemployed were left with little support from the state (unless they could afford to buy their council houses, which many - such as my family - could not). This meant that my grandfather was left on the bread lines with a family of 5 that he couldn't cater for.

She disregarded Scotland completely, everyone knows that, and I'm very much a working class man, from a working class background that was plunged into poverty at her and her party's say so.

It's my opinion, I'm entitled to it, as are you.

EDIT: I know what you mean, there's always a "victim" so to speak, but Thatcher's manifesto affected a whole lot of people in an often devastating way.

I agree it's your opinion. I just wanted to get to the root of your strong feeling. It's sad to see people thrown out on the street, nobody wants to see that, but there are 2 sides to every coin. For instance, I'm sure you're aware the mines were owned by the tax payers, and that the mines were ran at a huge loss, not to mention miners were always going on strike, sometimes asking for unreasonable pay rises, some up to 30 percent. So not only were these mines running at a loss plunging us into the red while they were open, the minors were closing up shop to strike to demand ridiculous rises plunging us even deeper into the red as well as cutting off supply because they were closed. something had to give.

Yeah I'm not saying she was perfect, believe me I know she wasn't. To many she was a hard nosed cold hearted bitch and even today in some parts of Britain, particularly parts of Wales (Not sure about Scotland) are still feeling the effects today from those decisions. But if you start playing with fire eventually you're going to get burnt. I.E You keep going on strike and holding the country to ransom, it might just come back to bite you on the ass and un fortunately because of the aftermath, thats what happened. But that doesnt make it right and I feel where you're coming from. it was a sad sacrifice of sorts.

And like any big city it's a damn site easier to find work and put food on the table. You live in a small rural area where the whole place is reliant on 1 industry, once that industry goes the results are devastating, the whole place goes to shit and everything crumbles. My apologies it's not a coal mining area, that was an example; here it was the Jute industry mainly, along with a few others, but dundee - although a city - is by no means a BIG city so the effects you mentioned are virtually the same, which is why it suffered more.
