every rapper worth his salt in the game worships the gorund he walks on like he some sort of lyrical god. He's over rated, point blank period.

Dont confuse lack of mainstream success with being underrated. Rakim is over-hyped imo.

hes the reason why rappers use multis in there rhymes,and any great rapper will list rakim as one of his influences....hes a hip hop pioneer and legend..

obviously if yu compare a verse in 2011 to one in 1988 its gonna look more complex lol...like i said he was like the jordan and nas was like a kobe

EVERYONE knows wtf rakim is. lol shiiiiit. And yeah OB could be classed as underated @ Rule. Always been a fan but doesn't get the recodnition he deserves.

I think Rakim was great in his time, he didn't keep up with music though hence he doesn't get his recognition from people now. Look at LL Cool J he is a prime example of keeping up with the music industry...

But Rakim does get recognition. TOO MUCH thats the whole point. ask any moderatly mainstream to extremely mainstream eastcoast artist their top 5 and I garuntee you Rakim will be in there. I've seen this happen on countless occasions. Thats the epitomy of over rated. when people claim someones the greatest because they feel it's "The right thing to say" it's called peer preasure and that stems from the recognition Rakim gets from these artists peers.
