get rid of unranked arena . in its place , have somewhere where people can do custom battles . choose anything from1 bar to 32 bars .then do you want a normal , scheme , topical or horrorcore battle ? done . it would get more people interested in variants of battling , and bring extra interest when shceme/topical/1 bar etc tournies come around as more people will have experience in those categories . thoughts ?

I actually like this idea, i had a similar thought earlier on but only with Schemes. I think it would be a good idea (what you suggested) to utilize this area of the site more efficiently. It would also garnish more activity for the site by having another way of battling/writing than the norm.

I'm all for this... it's all positive.

Also, add rankings to it but in their own separate area, so normal battle rankings won't be affected by Custom battles. So when you click on the Rankings Icon the drop down menu would show as follows.

Nobody uses unranked arena.

I like this idea, but of course we must keep in mind that actual software changes to the site happen just about never. I would be interested in running or participating in a variant-format league.

I posted something similar to this not too long ago and think this is a fucking great idea. I'd be down to help manage a member-run scheme battle league and other members could handle topical and custom length battles. If no one thinks I'm the right guy for the job, that's cool. I ain't mad at that. We can get the right guy. Just need to get something kicking.
For the time being, battlers could agree on a set amount of lines/bars and use a 32 line battle for a "custom" battle and just use the line count to reach the specified length. Just an idea.

I've thought about turning the unranked arena into a topical arena but adding the ability to add pictures to comments there.
Making it custom as described in the OP seems kinda complicated.
