I believe the only way science goes too far is developing things that have the potential to either end us all, or severely inhibit the progress of humanity in one way or another. which I think it already has, some would argue decades ago. It's a premier luxury we haven't seen more lethal combat between nations in recent times.

I would go a step further and suggest that we strictly limit procreation to our "genetic elite," and clone the best of the best. But of course that will never fly.

We should definitely have some Island shit where we clone ourselves to harvest their clone organs so we can live for 200 years. Now that I mention it, that movie shouldn't have been called The Island. Shoulda been called Organ Cloners.
Damn I'm good.

If we just harvested the organs from criminals, the organ donor problem would probably disappear. We wouldn't even have to execute them, we could just wait for them to die naturally. If we add this is a stipulation for paroled prisoners it would be even better.

You honestly can't expect average americans to cut out hedonism, it's never gonna happen. Middle class people spend about 50% of their cash on luxuries, wealthy 60%, poor 40%. So hedonism is a far bigger part of American Society than you'd think.
Also, the average american isn't all too intelligent (and most people actively live inside of a dunning-Kruger self-circlejerk so me, or whoever is reading this will likely fit into that average category) so before you could ever get slightly close to having everyday americans start researching cancer instead of developing dick pills for a quick cash-grab- you'd have to have some type of system (perhaps a part of school) implementing those values in people who haven't grasped them.

I always felt bad for Karl Marx....its the same reason communism could never work. I know there are a lot of great people making huge advances, most of whom and which we will never know much about....and thats sad that their innovations take a back seat to dog ears and talking cat apps. Ive been told I shouldnt be mad about people using their talents to further dumb down the populace instead of finding ways to contribute meaningfully. There's just too much demand for bullshit and the bills gotta get paid. So I guess, no, science hasnt gone too far....humanity tho is beyond saving.

Science goes too far when it doesn't consider ethics or socio-political consequences. A war with nuclear weapons on a large enough scale could literally render us extinct. Did they consider that while it was under development? Even today, scientists are pursuing all sorts of things for which they don't know what all the consequences and ramifications will be, but they should have an inkling that it could potentially be catastrophic.
