hes the reason why rappers use multis in there rhymes,and any great rapper will list rakim as one of his influences....hes a hip hop pioneer and legend..

I think Rakim was great in his time, he didn't keep up with music though hence he doesn't get his recognition from people now. Look at LL Cool J he is a prime example of keeping up with the music industry...

But Rakim does get recognition. TOO MUCH thats the whole point. ask any moderatly mainstream to extremely mainstream eastcoast artist their top 5 and I garuntee you Rakim will be in there. I've seen this happen on countless occasions. Thats the epitomy of over rated. when people claim someones the greatest because they feel it's "The right thing to say" it's called peer preasure and that stems from the recognition Rakim gets from these artists peers.
