the bible is not always literal.
look at the context around that verse..
verse 25: Jesus says he does the works of his Father
verse 27-29: Jesus talkin bout symbolic sheep his Father gave him
^^ both wouldnt make sense to those listening if they (God n Jesus) were one.
instead Jesus said 'My Father and I are so close-knit that no one can take away the sheep from me, just as no one can take them away from my Father' (based from 29). Similar to you saying to ya pop's enemy "if you attack my dad you attack me". Jesus and his Father are also “one” in the sense that they are in complete agreement as to intentions, values, standards..
therefore, that scripture only shows the strong bond of unity between them.
