Psychopathy, or the psychopathic spectrum?
Is psychopathy a dichotomy, or a spectrum?
Discuss.

Does your reason for posting this thread have to do with the recent arrest of a suspect in the East Area Rapist case?
Discuss.

Nope. It has to do with the Austin bombings.

Psychopathy, the brain disorder, is a dichotomy with a spectrum. You either are a psychopath or you aren't, since it's a biological condition, but some cases are more severe than others. The same is true of just about any disease or disorder.
Psychopathic features - that is, behavior and traits of a non-psychopath that would be typical of psychopaths - are definitely spectral.

Not what I meant in regard to a dichotomized system. What I mean by a dichotomized system, is the distinctions between primary, and secondary psychopathy as the only two forms of its presentation. But, interesting take.

Oh. I don't know enough to offer a good opinion on that.

I would posit that, as opposed to this system of duality, that there are several subtypes of psychopathy that present with the comorbidity of psychopathic traits with mental disorders extenuating beyond antisocial personality disorder.
As a side note, psychopathy isn't technically a brain disorder. At least, not in that it's something you can be diagnosed with. It's a classification for a series of behaviors associative with several mental disorders. Some of which are predispositional on a genetic basis.

Oh. My argument about psychopathy's spectral/dichotomous nature was based on the premise that psychopathy could be reliably diagnosed with no information other than the output of brain scans. If that isn't true, I retract my argument.
