There is a difference between plagiarism and inspiration. A lot of people feel like they can never be inspired by anything and creativity has to be born from thin air. There is no such thing as an original idea. We're all inspired by things around us. I'm not advocating plagiarism, the two are different things.

I'd say read battles and comments on battles too, that way you can see what voters like and don't like, then improve what you write to fit into that category, and I agree that creativity is tha key
