Word @ the skipping tip - That shit is for professionals, real talk.
And as for your 6 pack question... Unless you already got them, they are a BITCH to make gains on. Everyone is different, I gotta do sit-ups atleast 5 times a week just to maintain my Abs and keep that fat away. There are all different kinds of 'sit-up' type exercises that are good for getting the definition in your Abs.
Like I said, everyone is different - Just find an exercise routine that works for YOU.
There's not much more I can say, Jason pretty much summed it all up man.
EDIT: Oh and Jason is right... DO NOT forget about your legs. A big upper body with chicken legs? That shit ain't a good look. Plus you release vast amounts of testosterone when exercising your legs, which means more gains.

That dude Jason is on point with just about everything hes saying. No wonder you fucked your back up your form was probably terrible. Deadlifts,Squats,Bench, or pretty much any Olympic lift(Cleans, snatches) need to be incorporated into your gym routine. You really want to burn some fat? Do metabolic conditioning and you will be burning calories even a couple hours after working out if I were you I'd get some CrossFit going and then Look up Jim Wendlers 5/3/1 program for strength training. Trust what this dude Jason is saying big weights done with not the proper form can really be a strain on your body take it from someone who has tennis elbow and patella tendonitis that shits not fun

You better drink a lot of whey protein. That's a lot of burnt calories.

I found getting a six pack ridiculously easy, seriously.
I was never close to fat but I was doughy as hell from years of what can only be described as abuse to my body lol, but before my holiday this year I trained for like 4 months tops:
Only eat carbs with one meal a day, usually a lunch
Eat fruit and plenty greens (always aim for your 5 a day) so it'd be fruit for breakfast with yoghurt, a sandwich or a baguette for lunch and maybe salmon with broccolli & green beans for dinner or chicken curry or whatever. Also no red meats.
With the nutrition nailed I started off running but found it wasn't really getting me anywhere fast enough (which is immature as fuck but I was dying for results man lol) so I started a program I found on that Mike Chang's youtube, that high intensity interval cardio training shit. I coupled some of the routines with regular light weight exercises - I only wanted to rip up and not bulk in any way - and some fairly strenuous ab workouts and no shit I'd tightened up like a motherfucker in a matter of weeks; by the time of my holiday, maybe a month or two later, the abs were ripped as fuck.
Pain in the ass now is that I feel like I lost too much weight lol, so I'm on an "eat everything in sight and lift heavy" mission currently. Compound workouts and minimum cardio for now.
Speaking of which, @ Jason, you got any tips or things to avoid when bulking up? I don't wanna end up either back at square one or worse.
