Is hip-hop music really for everyone?

In the past, being part of the rap game meant you had to have skills in the craft. You had to have the ability to freestyle over rap beats or instrumental beats. Your rhyming skills meant everything in terms of being able to be accepted in the game. Unfortunately for hip-hop, those days are long over.
Today hip-hop is all about what you have and who you are around as opposed to what you are about and your ability to rhyme. It is now more important for an artist to be a good performer as opposed to being a great rapper. This is the reason why the hip-hop industry is over saturated. The real question is who is to blame?
The easy answer is to say the artist is to blame due to the fact they are the ones who create the art form to begin with. However, if you dig deeper, you will realize that the artist is only the tip of the iceberg. Hip-hop used to be a means of expressing yourself. A way of conveying everyday life struggles to one’s peers. It wasn’t really about making money from it, however if you did make money from it, then that was a positive. Once hip-hop music became main stream and money was involved, everything changed. Record labels realized that it was more important to sell an image to the fan base instead of selling the talent and ability.
An artist can now sell without saying anything of any meaning. Hot beats are no longer restricted to being only rap beats. Some artists can now rhyme or even sing over smooth R and B beats without hesitation because they know today’s fan base will accept it.
What has this caused? An over saturation of artists in the hip-hop industry. Now anyone can really be a rapper today because the standards of talent are at an all time low. As an artist I know that all I have to do is carry myself a certain way, have a certain look and perhaps be able to perform in front of an audience. People of this generation no longer really care about the message. They are more concerned about the hot beat.
For the true hip-hop fan this is bad news, however for the hip-hop producers out there this is music to their ears because they know that there is a flood of people who want beats. They also know that if they do things such as sell professional beats online, it will tremendously increase their chances of making money in the industry.
The bottom line is as long as there is no accountability between artists about the product they are releasing to the hip-hop fan base, there will always be an over saturation in hip-hop music. They will always feel as though they have a chance to make it big. Truth be told, as long as they have a dope beat and the right backing, they just might make it.

i agree with this 100% the image became more important then the skill and artistry and thats sad. real hip hop is only in the underground with a few mainstream, BUT underground is trying to make a heavy return and we all need to support that. i think when people look back at OLD SCHOOL they remember the good songs only......this warps perceptions of how "good" the era was! mainly it was easier to PRETEND back then. alot of people think tupac was the biggest thug in the game......he got caught up with suge who at the time was a thug in the game!! perceptions. i can think back a few years pick 8-9 really good songs and think yea that was the shit, i can do that 10-15 years back and do the same.......hiphop is everywhere now so we hear MORE of the shit music as opposed to the groundbreaking and truly great songs only. i have every tupac, jay z, biggie album etc etc that would be considered top 5 in most peoples opinions......i still skip a BUNCH of their tracks listening now. anyway im rambling but thats my 2cents

i will give you that bro.... about the good songs, but the fact of the matter is, is that there are way fewer good songs now a days...... you got good beats and catchy hooks with no real skill to back it up.... at least 15-20 years ago there was more skill presented even if the song was shitty as a whole..... theres almost no more storytelling ability anymore in mainstream just a bunch of niggas that can rhyme the end of their lines..... and its really sad.
