There's no favouritism here. Everyone earns their place.
On a low active site, allowing people to just join tourneys but not be actively apart of the website is one of the factors that has been killing overall site activity... just showing up for a tourney and then dipping for months until the next tourney(s) isn't helping anything.
If a battler can't even be bothered to complete 5 battles in 3 months to get ranked, they're not really worth consideration then, are they?
You've still plenty of time to make the ranks.

I just battle 4x in a row and tried to battle everyone I can’t force no one to battle me gang lol but I understand ya point of view just giving you insight that u obviously don’t care for lol guess we’ll be seeing Random Usernames battles for the first 2 rounds that people barely wanna vote on
