Wouldnt that result in pretty similar styles? I would think youd wanna keep things different instead of having the same structure to all the verses.

A rhyming pattern is a drop in the ocean of what defines a style. What about flow, concepts, set-ups, delivery, multi formulations? I'm not saying to completely abandon the idea of an "alternate" rhyming structure but pertaining to one is tacky and boring. I'd start from AAAA and go from there, now I can I slip in some inner rhyming structures. Why establish something before developing a style? Giving yourself more restrictions.

that AABA rhyme scheme is whack. B doesnt rhyme with anything.

I usually use the AAAA rhyme scheme. Im not a big fan of ABAB schemes either because it disturbs the flow when read out loud
