Questioning My Future
I need advice.. Soooo I thought I was going to play for Maryland in a couple years but now my parents are against it because they want me to focus on school and not sports.
So they suggested enlisting in the navy. No war, no combat. So I've seen a couple recruiters and they told me the benefits and all of that. I was actually surprised by it all. Scored high on the practice test. Said I should score even higher in the asvab test, Armed Service Multiple Aptitude Battery.
Now meps, military entrance processing station, is where the asvab will be taken place. They pretty much swear you in the branch you desire. There's that and then the physical. There's this questionnaire they give you which determines if you will dq'd from enlisting. Your medical history is important.
The recruiters told me don't tell them about your med history. Only history I have is meningitis couple years back. But they said if I tell them that, I'll be at risk of getting dq'd. So they pretty much told me to lie. But if I lie, then not only do I get dq'd, I could go to jail for fraudulence of enlisting. So I guess it's a lose-lose either way..
What should I do yo.. Was gonna ask Fiji cuz I've been told he used to be in the military buuuuuut... Yeaaaaa

you basically get away with anything if you have a military ID, and if you're not seeing combat, you're learning shit everyday, training to get in shape, and getting paid bi weekly i think... i guess if there's any great benefit, it's that you get an experience, expertise on shit, and residual income. my boy gave up 2 years of his life but since he was chillin on the base in Texas or in Afghanistan, he never really needed to spend money. so he racked up & copped a luxury car. & at the same time got in shape, became an expert on shit, and formed a brotherhood with army niggas.
i would definitely ask another recruiter or someone from the army in your area for a 2nd opinion on this matter rather than ppl on LB. shit varies from person to person and maybe even state to state. Fiji's experience might not necessarily be yours & vice versa

Don't the Army, Navy, etc have their own NCAA teams? I'm not sure how that works or what you would have to do to get on the teams, but it seems possible that you might be able to do both- go to the Navy and play sports.
I think you could probably google and research which medical conditions can get someone dq'd. I don't think ALL medical conditions do, and maybe having had meningitis in the past is not a big thing. You don't want to end up lying about something that wouldn't have been a big thing anyway so I'll say do your research before you decide whether or not to lie.

^^Under Neurological Disorders, there's (e) Associated abscess or meningitis.
They will have access to your medical history anyway, so I think it would be pointless to lie. But at the same time, the world isn't perfect, and if the recruiters themselves told you not to tell them about your medical history, there's probably something to it. The military probably overlooks a lot of shit intentionally until they CAN'T overlook it, you know what I mean?

It's not your parents life to live. It's yours. Do what makes you happy, They should support you no matter what choices you make in life.

Also, I wouldn't join the military. Coming from a former Army E-4 Specialist with a 88 Mic MOS. I joined when I was 17, foolishly for the money. It's not all it's cracked up to be. It's hard work, the hardest shit you will do in your life. Not only with training but being able to kill someone without batting an eyelash, and live with it until you die. You have your own wars to fight in life, Don't waste your life fighting someone else's war. #FuckTheUSGovernment

The Army has their own chess team, I can't imagine them not having a team for basketball.

@ NOBLE I would think since it was a couple years back, it shouldn't that big of a deal. I'm not affected by it whatsoever today but ill deff do research on it. They do have ncaa team for the navy and people actually do get scouted off of it. Couple of guys are playing d-1 ball now because of it. Ima look into it
@ Godbody the benefits are crazy as hell. This one recruiter driving a Benz a recently just bought his wife one all off the money he got from this shit but i am going to ask more recruiters about this. They said by the time I get there, I could be e-3 and that's I think nearly 2 thousand fifty thousand bi weekly.
@ Lou Cypher I would think the training for the army would be much more rigorous than the navy. My days back in detroit, that's all I seen. Just combat, shooting, fighting other people's fight. I was done with that life once I got adopted. They just want the best for me so I cant really bitch at them for this. Last thing I want to be is as bum on the streets begging for a quarter.
@ Axis Power any pointers?
