Well it was written by a fairly mainstream black man, even giving him the benefit of the doubt I expected this. Over analyzing how the perspectives couldve been delivered better is very meh to me considering at face value it was cool & might get people thinking more about an opposing school of thought.

• Might get people thinking - Who though? I don't think this track was to get black people thinking. It was the reverse. It seems like the white guy's telling black people whats wrong with them. And no one likes being chastised. It actually closes people down and makes them less likely to except what you're telling them. The black perspective seems like it's more sympathetic and asking for understanding. To me anyways.
• This mentality "pull yourself up" is well known to black people too. It's the Cosby Argument. and there's a lot of black people who agree but they're more center or on the right. The entire logic is talked about and debated on frequently by black people. A lot on the new left, "black Twitter" and all that would call it coonery and don't want to hear it. I don't blame them.
• To get people on the left to listen you have to find common ground not insult them.

But everyone in the thread is discussion how he did a good job or looking at both perspectives, he didn't, he only looked at one.
The white perspective he takes here is nowhere near a common perspective. Legit racists are in very short supply. Sure, you can argue that this is simply the perspective of the guy he was portraying, but I feel that, based on everyone's comments here, that this is supposed to be a down the middle debate where two opposing sides can discuss race. But he fails massively at targeting the common perspective of the white side.
If I was to write a verse on this perspective, here's what I would discuss:-
You protest the killing of black people by white police officers, but don't give a fuck when a white person is killed by the same people.
You claim that white people can't "take your culture", when you, a person born in America, claim the culture of Africa.
You pick and choose matters when white people have committed a crime and received a light sentence to prove our point that white people are treated better, but refuse to accept evidence which presents an opposite in the same scenario.
You believe that white people automatically believe you are a criminal, drug dealer and hate you, but are basing this on no real life experience. You have no white friends, you don't communicate with white people. Your only perception of this occurences is from strangers on the internet, or from what black people say to one another.
You automatically defend any black person against any persecution, regardless of the crime, based on race.
You believe white Europeans are a collective term regarding culture, when there is next to no cultural similarities between almost every white European country.
You bring up slavery as a weapon to defend your opinion toward white people, using their ancestor's control of your ancestors to justify it. You don't take into account that you ancestors could easily have been black slave owners in Africa owning white slaves.
The "you" in my context is aimed at the perspective of the person in this video, not "the black race". Obviously there are millions and millions of intelligent black people who don't hold any of these stupid opinions, and there are millions and millions of white people who do hold them.

Well those are massively solid talking points, Lyve science' as well. It is pretty weird he painted the whole of white america as basically alt-righters or what (the comparatively small percentage of) usually southern redneck types portray themselves as- or at the /very least/ painted the whole of trump supporters as such. Which if you think about it isn't really out of left field as far as low hanging fruit liberal drivel is concerned, its basically just identity politics on a beat. I guess initially I was hearing it from a more surface level joyner fan type perspective judging it as an all around solid concept but honestly if an artist is going far enough to create a scenario with two opposing sides they should at least represent them both fairly & accurately..

But it'd be fine if a white person did a song like this and used a stupid thug drug dealing gang banger as the black guy because of "identity politics" and "low hanging fruit"?
The MAGA hat is the icing on the cake. Many of people who have that opinion couldn't give a fuck about politics.

Just listened to the track again. The white guy says n***er twice.. Ig he (the rapper) thinks everyone who likes Trump is secretly calling black people the N word. Kinda shows the bias there.
