Have you tried focusing on one idea? You can let go of everything else and still have some mental activity

Interesting. I have not. I have difficulty with sensory information, however. With my autistic traits, it makes it difficult in general to shut out outside stimuli.

There are countless forms of meditation, and they aren't all about letting go or "clearing the mind." Many forms of meditation really has to do with concentration, focusing the mind on a particular image, object, or idea at the exclusion of everything else. One rudimentary exercise I would suggest is counting the breaths. When you inhale and exhale, that is one breath. Do this up until 10, and then start back at one. Try to maintain this for at least five minutes. Because the mind is wayward and tries to think of other things, it can be very easy to lose count despite how simple this sounds. The objective is to count the breaths and maintain count for a minimum of five minutes. If you lose count, just start all over again. The more you do this, it will actually increase your ability to concentrate beyond just doing this exercise.

Im pretty avid in meditations, been doing them my whole life lol. There are many forms (mental, physical, etc) With the physical "Qigong" it has done countless benefits for my physical health and systems. Essentially I just view all meditation as a way to "refine your TRUE SELF", ex a great Chinese teaching passed for centuries states the truth that 'To refine your mind, watch your body. To refine your spirit, watch your mind'

Nice! I've never tried Qigong but I've tried various forms of Hatha Yoga

Sounds like pretty much the gist of the meditative experience. Almost anything can be turned into a meditation.

I tried it, and like Jack I found it quite difficult.

But I don't really have any purpose for meditation. I don't really need to return to my centre too much. Nothing takes over or gets hold of me. I'm able to deal with just about every situation I'm faced with, so my non existent chakaras never get 'unaligned' or anything.

@NOBLE I Really like that breath counting one, its a good one to start up your Awareness of things. Yoga's cool too, they both have their respective schools (yoga dealing with the Kundalini energy in the spine) I chose Qigong due to my talents at being a healer
@Dave
The definition of Meditation is beyond sitting there with nothing in mind. Like Dj said, it can be anything that lets you let go of the physical "ego" world, and realize true joy, something beyond your imagined "self". Im sure that even as it is now there are things that get you into that Mind-State.

@NOBLE I Really like that breath counting one, its a good one to start up your Awareness of things. Yoga's cool too, they both have their respective schools (yoga dealing with the Kundalini energy in the spine) I chose Qigong due to my talents at being a healer
