Real Talk on the Daily
Starting this thread for people to discuss battles, emcees, policy and the future of battle rap.
This is a culture that we control.
Some say its dying off. If that is true, then we are the cause. We can sit by and let people become less interested, or we can make it more interesting.
Our Ego's are mainly what drives us to continue to write rhymes. We want recognition for our artwork. And then there is the gladiator in us who wants to be known for our superior skills and talents in this craft.
There are different levels of experience, drive and ambition. You can tell by the levels of confidence in each performance. Oh yes, that's what we're doing. Performing... for free! Or just honing our craft. Either way, there is work being put in, so something other than 0's and 1's should come out of it.
I don't have everything all figured out and that's also part of the reason for this thread.
You have Let'sbeef & ************ for your online rapping needs. Kinda the last lines of defense for the whole culture, and probably the frontline too. The main advantage that the live battle rappers that we watch and envy have.., is performing experience. Notice how often they use strategic pauses. Sure there's crowd reactions, but its often because their stuff won't sound that appealing otherwise. The crowd is making the performance. Whoa! Bingo!
So I've been trying to figure out how to save our new favorite past time people and could use some help. Talking it out is the best way. By doing so I just realized why live battles are so successful. Audience participation and novelty. I'm not trying to brag or get too big for my britches here people, but I think this whole industy could be better. Battle Rap. Why are we sitting by watching it turn into a one trick pony. READY?
I'm not the only person thinking along these line. OK, software and programming. Well, its another animal. But the foundations are laid, and today's tech is pretty much you get what you pay for. Sponsors. Probably not as hard to get as you would think. I don't think this is a get rich or even wealthy industry, but it can be better, and this is the point I'm trying to make.
FREESTYLE - I've always thought that freestyle was the future of rap period. That one day everything would just sound like old stuff. Well if you're forced to rap using the words you're given.....If you can't curse....If you can't even use long vowel sound rhymes, that's crazy. You see where I'm going with this. There is still untapped equity so to speak.
A main hurdle I've noticed is authenticity and legitimacy. How can battle rap skill be shown and verified. Freestyle for one must hold more weight. That's where the different types of battles come in. Personality will show more than ever if your back is against the wall. People will say things that make or break them.
How many people on this site, honestly think they could best a top live battler, given the same amount of prep time. You might need some crowd reaction to help you get the victory though, don't you think. Its getting to the point where people don't even vote on battles. Those guys are not as competitive as you think. They're out for the money. I would destroy one of their battle rapping careers. Seriously. Probably will never get the chance though, because if you know me, I aint tryna let you hear my shit before we hit the stage, or nobody else for that matter. Won't have that problem online. Do people really need to see cats up in each other's faces, pretending they are gonna fight. No, but it sure as hell makes a good show. Once people get used to talking shit from home on cam , while seeing 20 faces making expressions based on what they said, including their opponent, there might be hope.
People talk about how good this site was years ago. Of course it was better, fresher too maybe. Not so fresh now. It has nothing to do with the talent. It's the atmosphere. As far as there being any type of "market" for online battle rap. There's virgin gaming.... Although its based on definitive victory by score and not votes, Its still a model. The legal stuff is the least of our problems. Money or assets is always a great motivator though. Live stream tech probably does have to become more stable too. I can see it all in my head, but making it happen is going to take some will. People have to want for it to grow. If you don't want it to grow, then motherfucker it won't. If you're not associated with people who know how to deal with people, you have another issue. It's a formula. That's all. Anything is possible with the right formula. I'm done. If you made it this far then feel free to comment, offer suggestions, tell me to shut the fuck up, whatever. But in the meantime, I am gonna do some more research and see what's good out here. People battle from all over the world. Come on now. That must mean something.
Keep this thread going. I also wanted this thread to be about ratings.
Don't throw high ratings out there, legitimacy! If that shit is trash, say its trash, and why, then rate it accordingly. Maybe then people will see where they stand, and who they should pick on, battle etc. I've been rated higher than what I would rate myself in freestyle battles. We need some structure. Oh look, this guy is always getting 8's, this guys is gettin 6's. You feel more appreciated when your rating is high on a battle. and not just because someone said let me throw him this 7 so he'll stay up. Authenticity.
Plenty of time on my hands people, plenty of time. Shout out to the programmers.
You guys did an amazing job. Yall might wanna holla at the gov and see if they need some help with that Obama care site. Genuine kudos. I'm signing off.

This link is an example of a type of battle format. Self Glorification. I think this is what most rappers are good at anyways.

Battle rap is a phenomenon. For the sake of evolution, we should not take it lightly. It is ultimately a platform or pedestal for anyone's use. The variety of usage is overlooked. Why is this market developing so slowly, when freestyling is a formidable form of instant gratification. Freestyle rapping is equivalent to getting a massage, on your brain. A good freestyle contains the true feelings of the artist. You can't get used to an artists free-style. It is only what you see and hear at that moment which is processed and stored in your memory bank. Was that authentic or forced? Actors make alot of money because what they do is not an easy task. Sure anyone can do it after practice, but freestyle lacks this relevance. Once an artist spits rhymes from a place in which he didn't even know was there, its a spectacle. A musical shooting star, which is quickly forgotten because much of the content was only comprehendible by the artist......but the listening experience was unique. It can not be imitated. And if the session can....then that's not what I'm talking about. Check this battle out http://www.letsbeef.com/battle_detai...n=lb&id=605500
Just some thoughts on freestyle.
