how to get newbies to stay ..
ok , i had this idea months ago but nothing was done , so here we go again with the sane idea but with improvements . problem is , newbies join , and either find the site too complicated OR do a couple of battles and get sniped by more experienced mambers and leave or dont battle anymore as the disheartened . so here is my solution .
1 . every new member gets a wecome e-mail , but with the addtition of sections on how to vote , how credits work , and hints on how to battle . maybe give them 10 free credits so they can see how voting works , and let them vote on other newbie battles.
2 . change the unranked arena to a newbie league . they would have to do 10-20 battles to progerss to the basic league UNLESS they show they have some skill , or mods could check battles and promote those with with talent OR newbies that may be alts of existing , more experienced members .
3. hold a newbie tourny every 3 months or so - would give genuine newbies a chance of a title similar to roty , but held more often so would give them something to aim for .
4 . get mods/experienced battlers to vote on their battles and give them positive advice , along with where they can improve . some voters just basically say ''your shit'' which is no way to get people to stay as i discourages them from doing more battles if all they they get is negative comments all the time .

Fuck with those 3 ideas. I think the idea of havin to complete a certain amount of battles (maybe make em 5) to get promoted to basic league is dope. Coding wise we can have a "Beginner" or "Newbie" usergroup that doesn't allow new members in the basic arena right away. Thing is, in order to do that we have to make the basic arena have an advantage that these new cats would want, clueless atm. Cool idea tho.

@ AfterThought how about when they progress to basic arena they get a small mcee item or two ? would not cost a thing save a few minutes work and then they get a chance to win more stuff the usual way - by finishing in top 10 for the month in basic league or tournies etc ...

Another good idea; no rankings for the beginner arena.

Why not increase their battling by making them HAVE TO place in the Top 10 to advance to the Basic arena?

I like all three of those ideas @ stevevenom I know that if I joined and dropped a battle...and got slaughtered without anyone giving me pointers or anything...I'd probably leave too. Good ideas!

way I see it is that we do get quite a few new members , but only a small percentage stay due to what has been said .. let them battle each other and learn HOW to battle ... if you was a general you would not send raw troops in to battle w/o the skills and training needed to avoid getting killed first time out lol ..and the 'how to battle' and 'how to vote' sections would be easy enough to send in an e-mail to every new member !! so hopefully people will see sense and do something about it this time ...is it @ Pugz and @ NOBLE who would be in charge of this sort of thing ? if so , then fellas , in the words of Patrick stewart ..MAKE IT SO !!

Moved to the proper section...
I'm not really feeling the forcing new members to battle in the unranked arena, but I'm too lazy to articulate why at the moment. Some of the other ideas are being worked on already behind the scenes. I made a similar thread not too long ago titled "How come we don't welcome new members" and fielded similar ideas and solutions on how best to retain new members. One of the things I'm working on is tutorials on how to battle, vote, etc..which will go into voting etiquette, but they're more of an explanation of how the Letsbeef site modules work and a bit about the rules rather than a presumption that every newcomer needs to "learn how to battle or how to vote." That's not the kind of approach I think we need to be taking. I hate to sound like a broken record so I'll just cut this comment short. Anyway...carry on.
