Default Kendrick - GOAT? Top 5? Top 10?

Where do ya'll rank K.Dot all-time... It's a very interesting debate

The argument against him being Top 5/Top 10 is that the current state of Hip-Hop sucks, and Kendrick stands out THAT much more because everyone is a mumble/trap rapper. Another argument against him is that he's only like 6-8 years deep in the game, so it's too soon to say he's anything "of all time" when we've yet to see if his music stands the test of time like Pac, BIG, Jay, etc.

The argument FOR him being Top 5/Top 10 is that he's dropped 4-5 solid projects that were all critically acclaimed. TPAB and DAMN. are the highest rated albums in Hip-Hop history according to Metacritic

http://www.metacritic.com/browse/alb...view=condensed

Another argument for him being Top 5/Top 10 is the fact that BIG is widely considered a Top 5 rapper or a GOAT and he only released 2 albums. So why can't Kendrick, with 4 solid ass projects be on the list?

For me I'm undecided. He's #1 now, he's probably in my Top 10 all time..but all things considered, I strongly agree with the argument AGAINST him being GOAT/Top 5.. He stands out a lot because most of these rappers fucking suck. It's like that J Cole track False Prophets.. Kendrick is someone the industry promotes as the messiah/savior of rap when in reality the lack of great rappers are what raise Kendrick to that level of greatness in our eyes

He's top 10 all time. If he drops another classic after this I'll have no choice but to put him in my top 5.

While that lyricism is one of the only pillars of hiphop that I think Pac lacked, I feel the greatest of all time should be a legendary emcee well rounded in the four (or more) most important elements of hip-hop, not lack in one while they can shine in the others.

Is Pac the most influential rap artist of all time? Most probably, I cant think of anyone near his level on that scale. Is he the Goat to me? nahhh.

Moving on to the mainlining topic of this thread, I think that Kendrick is the most well rounded emcee who exists in the popular pool of the current wave. I definitely think that he sits around the top three position for current popular artists, if not being the actual head of the totem pole for the current hip-hop scene.

as for any real "goat" or real "greatest of ALL time" argument, I don't know if we've even seen a real candidate so far. For there to even be a greatest of all time he needs to blow most everyone else completely out of the water, just dunno if I've seen that in many emcees so far personally.

Pac isn't your goat because your not black so you could never relate to his music. Biggie & em was lyrical but pac was ahead of his time. Its not about having all the elements to be goat influences the mass & future generations to come. There music is timeless. The only people I feel thats done that is pac & em, pac did it 1st and better. 100 years from now, people wont be listening to young thug, lil uzi, kdot biggie or jay z. pac made music for the future

I have 3 stacks above Kendrick too and I'm pretty sure Andre 3000 was a huge influence on K. Dot...There's this track on DAMN. that sounds just like a 3 stacks track. Beat and everything

I think Pac is overrated, but considering he died at 25 and dropped so much good music with substance and meaning I can't argue with him being Top 10..I think a lot of people overlook the fact that BIG and Pac made such impactful music and Pac died at 25 BIG at 24. BIG died at my age with 2 albums of timeless shit under his belt. That's wild

That's wild

Yeah Kendrick is definitely Top 5. He could never drop another track and be considered Top 10. To me that further solidifies him as an All-Time great.

@Godbody @Erupt Question is, (in your opinion) who's really even close him to that status after him (current day/very recent times)?

Schoolboy Q, Earl Sweatshirt, Joey Bada$$ to name a couple of young(er/ish) dudes.

I see some rappers down the road that could revolutionize some shit stylistically, but either need a push subject matter/production-wise (Earl), or need to break outta the clicks they're in (Schoolboy and ABSoul lookin like Scottie and Dennis right now compared to Kendrick).

How can you refer to something as a "classic" when it's less than 5 years old?

You're seemingly contradicting your own point by limiting the scope of your second remark to the current era of emcees.
