Vote Discrepancy

Something that has been on my mind for a while is the major difference in voting from the old days until now.

Back then, if a vote consisted of an explanation being: "Shit was fire" or "Mad dope" or "Very nice punches throughout" then it would earn them 8's and 9's. But these days, even when a verse garners that kind of review or attention, the verses are awarded 5's or 6's.

Is it a thing that we (we being the total Letsbeef population) have a hard time giving 7's, 8's, and/or 9's? If so, why?

I've judged a lot of battles that I think earned 8's and 9's, and I awarded them as such, only to see other harsh ratings such as 5's or 6's, but the explanation being "you actually surprised me here. Your drop was really nice and I enjoyed blah blah blah"

I see it, overall I'd say people have been more into giving 5's & 6's lately. Either the standards have gone up or people are just overly harsh, either way I do like the shift in people breaking down their explanations and not just throwing up a generic blanket statement (FV, VB, etc.)

You can also attribute it to A) The usergroup of LB has become wiser to what is actually considered good and what isn't and B) It is very hard to come up with a novel spin on something in comparison to the older days. I'm normally one to give an 8 as my highest rating more often than not if I find the verse to be very well executed in how it's written. The concepts might not floor me with the freshness, but I do respect good writing when I see it. The number goes down further and further with how poorly written the verse actually is. Simple as that. If I have to take more time than what I need to decipher what exactly the fuck it is one person is saying, then that's going to factor in to my vote. You're only going to get a 9-10 rating from me if you absolutely floor me with fresh concepts that are very well executed and almost flawlessy written, and I think that's only fair.

That's my $0.02, though, and I know I'm not perfect when it comes to writing, but that should give people more of an insight as to what I look for in a verse.

another thing is people often vote say if the winner they gave a 7 they give the loser a 6 or just one number below them, instead of saying what they actually think... like ppl do it so ppl dont get upset an hate vote on there shit i guess.. but like u dont see any battles really where one guy is getting 9's an the other 5's even if the loser was wack af ppl still chuck em the 8, no what i mean?? word up.

True but on the other side of the spectrum people hand out 2's & 3's when someone actually tried and filled the box completely which imo. is WAY too low.
