Mods = Great Voters?
Being a mod, doesn't make you a good voter. Should mods VP be higher than everyone elses?
Please answer in the poll, and discuss your thoughts below - if you would like.

I agree. I think a better way to do it would be, the more titles the more vp. Someone who has won multiple tourneys would know what to look for. While someone with a mod title isn't guaranteed to be the best battler or voter.

Not a bad idea, I think the mods are "fair" as they are staff, but that shouldn't necessarily mean that their votes should outweigh someone who is equally knowledgeable, just without the mod title.
I like the titles idea though.

A.) To answer OP. Mods are chosen, in part, on their ability to vote concisely, and understand the mechanisms of voting. It's one of the prerequisites for consideration. This is why they're allotted higher VP.(In the past, the FVC was used as a "recruitment pool" of sorts, for this very reason.) Mods aren't better voters because they're mods, they're mods because they're better voters.
B.) To respond to the quoted section. Being a good battler doesn't make you a good voter, either. Just because I battle a lot, and am good at it, doesn't mean I take the time necessary, or put in the effort necessary to vote consistently, and be a strong voter.

Fair points, I would contest that Mods overall are not super active voters either, and that responsibility is kind of being superceded by the FVC, anyway.

Do you believe that in order to, maintain conciseness and high level voting - you require practice aka to vote/read battles consistently?

Sure, if you're new to voting. But, none of the mods are new to voting. There's a plateau to voting knowledge.

This is 100%. I can only think of one or two occasions in the last 7 years where someone was picked as a mod who hadn't gone through the FVC at some point prior.

I think voting is the same way. I've seen people who are considered among the best voters leave the site for a while, then come back dropping absolutely shitty votes before their ratings and judgement starts showing a certain level of accuracy again. Once you understand how to judge battles, there's a certain amount of that skill that never leaves you, but it still takes practice to maintain the most accurate assessments imo.

Voting no. I don’t think being a good mod is in anyway correlated to being a good battler or voter. (Not saying mods ARENT these things, but I don’t believe it’s a hand in hand thing) I don’t think they should be able to sway a battle that much, considering how most battles are ending with 4-6 votes these days. Factor in a couple of those votes being 0 vp and mods are able to basically single handedly decide battles. Besides, the FVC is coming out and so there’ll be a squad of dedicated voters with increased vp anyway.
