How come we don't welcome new members?

Great suggestions in this thread. @NOBLE I think the reason people don't bother posting on welcome threads is because they're automated. If people post their own welcome thread they're more likely to respond. If they've joined and it's made for them they probably don't even know it exists themselves.

I don't think @NOBLE is talking about posting in threads here, @Nicholas. I think what he is suggesting, is that we take the initiative with new members to personally greet them on their profiles, or, in their personal messages, to help them become more acquainted with the site.

I thought he meant the 'Welcome Forum'? If this wasn't automated but new users were encouraged to post here (could be in the video tutorials mentioned) then I think people would be more inclined to say Hi there.

I welcome new members occasionally but sadly they don't stick around that long for me to guide them in any sort of direction. I try though.

Agree 100% on the chatbox though, there's a lot of conversations going on there and new people dipping their feet in there would get a good taste of the site. I mean there is stupid arguments in there sometimes but everyone's pretty chill for the most part.

He meant reaching out to the members shown in the welcome forum. Not necessarily in those welcome threads, though. That's how I took it, anyway.
