Fair Vote, Vote Back, Is it Ethical?
There is no question that today on LB, there is a large number of voters using the slogan "FV, VB" in the comments, FV standing for "Fair vote," VB standing for "Vote Back." Yet is this practice ethical, does it affect voting objectivity when someone returns a vote? Or is this just a simple practice which increases the overall amount of voting on the site?
We Interviewed some of the top voters and most recognizable figures on LetsBeef to gather their opinions on the matter
The Student is a LetsBeef moderator and someone who has participated on the site for a number of years. He was interviewed by the LB Magazine's own Teknologi for his take on this issue.
Comments in Red are ones made by The Student.
What do you think about the "FV/VB" comment that some people use?
I Think If They've Been Here, On LetsBeef, For A Duration Of Time That Can Qualify Them To Be Beyond The Novice Title Then They Shouldn't Do It. To Me It's Lazyness And They Don't Want To Explain Why They Are Voting For Someone. Voting Isn't Really That Hard To Do I Mean If You Want To Battle You Should Vote And Vote Fairly. There's No Reason Why You Should Give Biased Votes. You Should Vote For The Person That Had The Better Verse Regardless If You Like Them, Hate Them, Respect Them, Etc.
What would you do to stop this comment from appearing on so many battles?
I Would Encourage People To Give Explained Votes And Give Them Incentives.
How much do you think the FVC has helped since it's invention?
I Think The FVC Has Helped Alot Since It's Creation By Mindless, I Think We Need To Improve On It Some But It Has Great Potential.
How much do you predict it will help in the future?
I Think It Will Help Alot But As Stated We Still Can Work On It Some More.
JWall has been on LB since 2006 and is a respected member of the community.
He was interviewed by Teknologi, comments by him are in red.
What do you think about the "FV/VB" comment that some people use?
First of all thank for the chance to be a part of the magazine.
Of cours the FV/VB comment is used as a tool to say "Hey I voted fair on your battle so get me back with a fair one". Some people use it as way to sway votes towards their way but mainly I think its just a proper voting technique.
What would you do to stop this comment from appearing on so many battles?
I don't think there is any way to stop it. I see nothing wrong with letting someone know you voted fair on their battle can you do the same for me. People just like to complain and when someone isn't going for them they have to find something to complain about.
How much do you think the FVC has helped since it's invention?
I didn't know much about the FVC until now. I would have to say its a good invention if the club holds true to their name. I have always voted fair but I don't need to be in a club to show my fairness.
How much do you predict it will help in the future?
I don't know if its help any now, let alone in the future. There will always be unfair voters and multi accounts voting on their own battles until someone creates something to stop an IP address from having multiple accounts. Even then there will be controversy out there because there are a select few that have multiple accounts and do not vote on there own battles and there are some households that have more then one person who is a member of LB. The FVC is just a way for its members to not be caught up in the controversy of unfair voting, a way to keep their names clear.
As a person whom has been here a great deal of time, do you think it's too late to change the way things have been since 2007?
Look everyone is going to have problems with the way a site is, the fact of the matter is, LB is probably one of the best rap battle sites on the net. Hands down in my opinion the best UI of any site I have ever been a part of. The Admins and Moderators do a Bang Up job in eyes considering all of the complaining and bickering that goes on here. I see no need for great change
remarK is one of the most respected voters on LetsBeef, and one of it's most popular members. Editors note: remarK is the only person interviewed in the magazine that entirely opposes the use of FV/VB usage.
Interviewed by Teknologi, comments by him are in red
What do you think about the "FV/VB" comment that some people use?
it's stupid.. people can come up with a better judgement than that..
I understand a lot of people say they don't have the time to write a long expo.. or the controversy between the fact that an expo doesn't have to be long to be fair..
I agree with that, so it's not like I think everybody should have to write a bar for bar explanation, but at least write a lil' something constrctive for the people that battled.. it's easy to spot a fair vote from a bitch-vote..IMO
What would you do to stop this comment from appearing on so many battles?
Honestly, it's hard to really say.. the most you can do is encourage people to vote better..
cuz if you start deleting votes just because they said fv vb.. it will start even more problems between the people battling, people blaming mods for being corrupt, and other dumb shit like that.. I would like to delete votes like that doe..
How much do you think the FVC has helped since it's invention?
A lot of people hate on the FVC, the concept of it I mean.. but it has obviously helped the site & has made other existing/new members eager to do their part as well..
How much do you predict it will help in the future?
uhh, I feel like it can only exceed in it's progression to help the site..gaining more people..cuz I mean who's gonna leave?, lol.. you only get cut if your not meant to be in it..or due to inactivity..soo...
As a person whom has been here a great deal of time, do you think it's too late to change the way things have been over the past few years?
In what aspect?.. I feel like a lot has been changed over the past few years due to the great staff the site now has..active, good mods will always help change the site for the better..and we have that..people will always hate on them, but the real recognize it..
The Rise and Fall of MFDz, a Chronicle
The Phoenix is a mythical bird that died and rose again
Written by EJT
MFD'z is already one of the three crews in the LB Text Hall of Fame, but on the night of December 17th 2009, Every member but Cecil (Illimit) and a Multi-Account called "MFDlives" was gone.
The amount of free agents looked like the upcoming NBA free agent class.
Unknown Artist, PepTalk, Jason and Hugh Jasshole were among the most active MFD's at the time and at the time they went different ways. Jason, who was the other leader of MFD'z said, "MFD'z was just one big pile of inactive battlers".
Which is true, to be honest. The other leader Cecil has not been active due to LB being blocked from his work's computer, Askari who has ghosted, along with other former members.
Hugh Jasshole, formerly known as The Sho, commented on the issue saying that, "It was a cool crew but it took all competition out of crews on LB".
Now as recent of January 2nd, 2010 (?), Jason was back as a leader of MFD'z with a few members back in.
In the two week span of a non-existing MFD'z, former members jumped on to already running crews. Unknown Artist joined HoodRich, Hugh Jasshole became a leader in Spectacular Vernacular, and PepTalk jumped between the two. Former Rookie of The Year, AKriD ArTz, became a member of the Letsbeef Pricks as well.
Meanwhile, you can imagine Jason's inbox getting cleaned out every hour by the amount of invites added on to his regular moderator duties. Jason remained without a crew for the time without an active MFD'z.
With all this being said, will the new MFD'z be just as a powerhouse as the old one? Jason has told us that this time, MFD'z is going to be smaller with only active members. Jason added, " I don't really expect anytrhing either way.. we'll prolly be a small group and thats more then fine w/ us.. MFD'izzle!" Currently, only Coree Warpath and Ricky Gunn (PepTalk) are members of MFD. Jason and Cecil still remain leaders. As this story unfolds even more, stay with the Official LetsBeef Newspaper for updates and exclusive news provided by Spectacular Vernacular.
