Eminem popularized hip-hop to other races, he made them feel like they got a place in it. Hes the reason why the door opened to others. Indirectly, I think hes the reason why hip-hop has become the most popular music genre today. He may not be the only reason for this, but he had a major part to play.
Lord Jamar is just a racist tbh. People like that claim they sticking up for blacks but his actions only separate us more and cause animosity.
EDIT: Welcome back, NOBLE.

i have to agree with this for the most part. when you say white rappers are a guest, or that rap is black music, that's just segregation, and it's funny how the shoe never fits when the tables are turned. the black singer for a metal band is a good example. beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so just like there's nothing wrong with being a homosexual, there's nothing wrong with being attracted to making music that a particular group of people make. also, being the first to start a movement doedn't define the movement forever. the basketball point Celsius makes is solid.

Funny how when talking about rap and hip hop you gotta talk about Eminem. I’m a huge fan of his lyricism when he’s trying, but yah he does some weird goofy shit and contradicts himself often. Haven’t listened to his stuff much for about 6 years.
So the guest in hip hop thing... NWA would be considered of the OGs but what about what they repped and how they dressed?..and Many of the Founding rappers of the time? They had Cholo influence big time. So with that being said, is the culture also effected by outside factors too? It’s okay for the culture to change styles but not race?
I have over a dozen ethnicities.
Just adding my piece... no issue

I'm sure a quick delve into my post history will show you I don't agree with alot of LB voters. If I had to vote on that battle it would be something like "Personals were really what decided this... one verse was written with a specific target the other song could have been for anyone the aggression was there vocally but I didn't feel it in the bars"
He went in on Em who cares about the scheme? I couldnt name another MGK song but Rap Devil is dope. The intangibles were there I felt the verse thats enough for me.

I’m not saying anyone is a guest. Fuck Jamar and fuck the guest part. What I’m saying is hip hop needs to be recognized as a black art form. That’s why I used the anime metaphor. Anime is a Japanese art form part of the Japanese culture. Others are welcome to view and create anime regardless of nationality... BUT it’s Japan’s style. It’s Japan’s shit PERIOD.
We can share and care and let everyone in the hip hop culture all we want but it was primarily made by blacks and should be recognized as such. Not sugar coating that. I get that this sort of term may FEEL dividing but it’s better than not recognizing a culture for what it is for the sake of inclusivity. It’s just a label (but in this case the lable is important imo).

That really shits on the Latino and Anglo Saxon contributions early on though. I don't agree with it being a Black art form. The Anime argument would make this an American thing moreso than Black IMO.

Cause it is. Idk what you or most people in this thread are but it comes from black culture. Idc how many American animation studios create good anime... it’s still a JAPANESE art style. I’m all for freedom against race labels but this is where the line is.

I know that might not be YOU saying that as I realize you’re more so quoting Jamar, but just in case anyone else even implies it isn’t, I just want to make that clear now @ NOBLE

But anime is created by people all over the world. Its origins are Japanese, but its no longer PURELY a Japanese art style. Its like if a black dude was to make french food, and him only being a "guest in french cuisine". Makes no fucking sense

Lol but you’re still calling it FRENCH food. Not “Global food”. It’s FRENCH food created PRIMARILY by the FRENCH (Which is why it’s French food). Everyone can enjoy. I am in no way calling anyone a guest. Fuck Lord Jamar (like I said if you read the whole forum). All I’m saying @ Phil Banks is that when it comes time credit should be given where it’s due. Hell yeah everybody can watch BET... but it’s literally a black channel. Do you feel me in the slightest? lol bruh I’m not trying to sound all black panther “fuck the white man” right now.
