As for similes, Real Talk based his whole style on them; that and nameplays and people still druel over him (no hate to Real Talk). Is it acceptable to SOME people? Tbh if the concept is cool and it hits hard who gives a fuck if it was a simile or a metaphor, as long as its worded well and has maximum impact. I prefer not to use it as much as possible though, that's just my style.
