Are you at all familiar with the Nat Fraser case from the uk @ Jason ? It's almost the complete opposite to this; whereas (from what I gather) they couldn't prove Zimmerman was acting on racial profiling or genuinely feared for his life beyond reasonable doubt; in the Nat Fraser trial (which was actually televised on uk TV last week) the guy Fraser was accused of hiring a hitman to kill his wife; there was never a body found, nor a link to a Hitman or DNA evidence, murder weapon etc and the guy's alibi checked out, yet one "witness" (who was formerly a suspect and charged with contempt of court) claims Fraser hired a Hitman to kill his wife and he goes down for 25. At the retrial last year (the one they televised last week) he was again found guilty and made to serve his remaining 17 years. Found guilty of murder twice with zero evidence and only character witnesses since his alibi checked out at the time she disappeared. This is one i actually read the full case report for and watched the televised trial. Makes you wonder what verdict Zimmerman would've faced had this happened over here.

From what I've read, here is my understanding:-
Several houses had been robbed in Zimmerman's area, and the police had not acted or responded to any of the calls he made about it.
He seen what he describes as a suspicious kid, dressed with a hoody and the typical 'thugwear' clothes, strolling around and looking at houses.
He called the police, and believes Trayvon will get away before the police arrive, so he follows him whilst on the phone.
The police officer said "We don't need you to follow him", but Zimmerman ignored the suggestion, again believing the cops won't arrive on time.
Trayvon at this point has noticed Zimmerman and runs away. Zimmerman follows. Eventually, Trayvon thinks "Fuck this", and them turns back to beat Zimmerman down.
In the fight, Trayvon is slamming Zimmerman's head against the concrete.
Zimmerman pulls out his "3rd amendment" gun and then shoots Trayvon.
Really, it depends on how you look at things. Zimmerman meant no threat on Trayvon's life, before he began to get his head smashed into the ground. But then again, he WAS following Trayvon who even tried to run away before thinking "Here, you keep following me and I'm knocking you out".
The only issue to me is that someone is allowed to have a gun. This situation happens in Scotland, neither is really at fault, Zimmerman gets his ass kicked for trying to follow someone. In America, the guy is allowed to have a gun on him, which was why he felt confident enough to follow the kid and which is really the reason the kid died.
You follow someone, you get kicked the fuck out of. It should really be as simple as that. Without a gun, Zimmerman (if he didn't think he could fight) would have thought twice about following the dude cause he wouldn't have been able to defend himself.

I think courts are always more informed than any of us who aren't involved with the case, but I don't think that means they are incapable of getting it wrong. Their primary concern is often procedural. What I mean is they look at the procedures through which information and evidence was obtained first and foremost. Someone who is guilty as hell can get off based on a technicality, and the shit has happened before. Police can bust a drug lord red handed with a load of drugs and he gets off because they didn't have any warrant to search his place or didn't have any reasonable cause. So I wouldn't presume in every case that because they are being paid and have been exposed to more information about the case that they must have gotten it right.

I'm curious as to why the jury was comprised of 6 women, rather than a mixture of backgrounds in what was suspected to be a racially motivated incident from the off.

I don't really keep up to date with this type of stuff, but from what I've read from you guys here's my ''opinion:'' If someone attacks me and I have some sort of protection, whether it's a knife/gun/crossbow I don't give a fuck and I feel my life could be taken (Dave said he was smashing his head off the cement) I'd put a bullet/blade/arrow through that person. It doesn't matter what race the person is, what if Zimmerman didn't have the gun and Trayvon did kill him, or give him brain damage would there be this much of an up-roar? No. It seems that people that want racism gone keep bringing it up every time a cross race murder/attack happens. Whether it's white's accusing blacks, blacks accusing whites, Chinese accusing Koreans, it doesn't matter. As long as people keep bringing the race card up it'll never go away. But in actuality, everyone knows it wont. There will ALWAYS be some sort of tension when something of this caliber happens.. But that's my opinion, feel free to make me feel like an asshole now.
