Hip Hop's not dead, I've come to grips with that. But like RULE said, it's more at the top now so it's nothing special anymore. EVERYBODY wants to be a hip hop artist now, hip hop has taken over and anybody that's marketable gets a deal over real talent. That's why there's so many young groups out there and all these young rappers that don't know what real hip hop is but instead can rhyme and are marketable because other teenagers feel connected to them. But Soulja Boy started that era when he came from nothing to being a millionaire off of one song, so now you notice everybody is doing that. New Boyz? I'm a jerk. Souilja boy? Crank That. Young Money? Bed Rock. And as soon as people get tired of them, they go off the map and some more young wanna-be hip-hoppers come in and have their little 15 seconds of fame and it's just a continuous cycle at this point. There will be NO way to get hip hop back, not unless label owners start marketing real hip hoppers instead of marketable, non-talented teen wanna-be's.

rap is dead. some proof. back in pac's era rap was political, mentor-like, and even spiritual motivation. now? rap walks hand in hand with secular music. when i tell ppl imma gospel rapper they say its impossible..rap started as a culture to us AND the world. now its just a culture to us and the WORLD sees it as negative. even some of us are disgusted with it. (Jada, DMX, Eminem)

Pac has several guntalk thuggish songs which are far from political. Immortal Technique, quite likley the most political rapper ever, reciently released 3rd World over the last 2 years, his best album to date. NaS' Nigger was quite a political album also.

If you gonna talk, at least be educated please.
Seriously, quit talking like rap used to be some fucking expression for social progress, and now it sucks...
Hip Hop 101: The Socially progressive/Afrocentric movement. Started in 88 with the Jungle brothers and the Native Tounges Posse.
Too many dumb ass motherfucks try to act like ya'know....Boogie down productions and NWA weren't already out there rapping about murdering and killing cat's BEOFRE the socially progressive element of hip hop came into being...
The whole socially progressive movement was a RESPONSE toward gangster music. Black sheep, ATCQ, De La Soul, all part of the kickback against that shit...
They weren't talkin bout shit either then. Quit acting like hip hop used to be some uber-profound cultural shit, it wasn't.
If hip hop is dying, (which It isn't) it is because people stopped pushing the envelope.
I'm so fucking tired of hearing guy's talk about the 90's, and bringing it back, and they all tryna get they 99' Kanye west sound on....fuck that. Push the bar. Everyone these motherfuckers idolize and try to sound like....were doing the exact opposite, and trying to sound original. jezus...

That depends what generation your from dmullz. I'm the 90s generation through and through. My mom hated rap music saying it was nothing but meaningless talking, and now I pretty much feel the same about rap now.
