That's another thing about this whole 'genre' of interest.
Most serial killers are NOT charming, intelligent master minds with a pattern for everything.
We only hear about the ones with a romanticized story which fills people's conceptions.
The majority of serial killers are just sick cunts who enjoy killing people, more likely with an air (dunno spelling of that word) of perversion about it.

And remember when I was telling you to look deeper with GoT and the chick taking charge. (You probably just got roped in by the violence and shock of the show rather than the subtleties...But)
For me Dexter is the same. It's full of subtleties that are bang on the money for a serial killers mindset, only using a unique take for a TV show. Like The subtle self concious jabs at himself parodying his circumstances when the time arises.
I think you take things at face value too much sometimes. I'm 1 of the first to pick a hole when I see it or call something contrived because it does something just for the sake of it. I'm not saying Dexter doesn't have those moments but for the most part it's for a deeper insight into his backstory and who he is. It isn't cookey or zaney for the sake of being cookey or zaney. It's his yang to the rest of the casts ying. You get their take on proceedings then you'll get his from the point of a man detached from all emotions the normal human beings feel through dark humour and what not.

And that's what most of these shows will base their portrayals on. The Mansons, The Gaceys and the Dhamas. The Wests. Some of them were good looking some of them used other ways to gain control. It's these guys we hear about who are "romanticised" who had something about them to go about their business.
Obviously they manipulated "weak minded" people But Books and shows like this will always turn to the 1's like the above to get inspiration and even exagerate the circumstances/charm/level of control.
Tbh though I always seen Dexter as a cross between a film noir and a comic book character so I roll with it.
If you can suspend disbelief you're good to go. If you can't and you're a cynic who has to have everything by the book and grounded in reality. You're always going to struggle with a show like Dexter. I mean this isn't The Wire we're talking about

I HATE the "shock" in GoT. But while you say violence, I say "action".

I dime Dexter. Def one of my favorite shows of All Time. I think the shows perfect. It ended a lil weird for me, but still a great show. Some seasons are better than others obv. but still a dope show. I think he kills the Dexter role, acts it perfectly.
The season with Trinity is my favorite season (4th or 5th i think)
Season 1 & 2 are pretty dope too
So is the final season.
If you haven't watched atleast the first season, it's definitely worth giving it a try.

@ Dave Dexter is the perfect serial killer/psychopath as explained in the final season. He crosses and kills many killers throughout the show.

^I also hate this. The "watch until X and it gets good".
Why can't shows be dope from episode 1?

I gave up on GoT before cause the first two episodes sucked. It took so long for me to be gripped by Breaking Bad too.

Dexter is soft I give the shit a 7-8
theres a crazy ass twist in every season but the show is so one dimensional.. kill a couple dudes, X finds out your secret, avoid X telling your secret or kill X because X kills people, shocking protagonist death here or there, etc etc etc
But it gets old quickly
if you're bringing up Dexter specifically because you're watching it on Netflix..I know Netflix has all the episodes now...a better option would be Prison Break
Prison Break is easily Top 5 shows on Netflix

I also wasn't the biggest fan of prison break. I'm happy about this because literally it seems to be the only non similar thing between me and arch nemesis @ RULE.
I heard Dexter is very format based, but didn't watch it myself like Pulse said. Like sure you can say Walking Dead is format based as I've seen before, but that's stretching it big time. Is Dexter as much like House in the predictability as people say?
