So I’m a few tracks into Cortez Musik, jumping right into this review, and everything has been sounding SO commercial so far. No westcoast flavour at all to it. Everything just sounds like everyone else’s stuff. About 5 tracks in and not impressed at all.

Finally a nice one. It’s Lucci rapping over the I Need You Tonight beat, although I think it’s slightly remastered. Pretty awesome song called Mula Music. Lucci flows along on it well, beat is chilled out as fuck. It’s not really as good as the Junior MAFIA one all the same. All in all a solid track.

Another few okayish tracks, and get to Camera’s Out. It’s got a Dae One feature, who really makes the song with a pretty nice hook. Dae One is one of the last true westcoast guys around, and it a master at recreating the old westcoast beat sound, so always good to see him make a nice track. Lucci was okay.

Jolly Rancher is a song where he says I believe “drip drip drip drip drop…she tastes just like a jolly rancher”. The fuck is up with his jolly ranchers?

Next song has this intro. “You know a lot of people axing me what Cortez Musik stands fow. You know Cortez was a shoe, that back in the eights all the hustlers wore. And when it was time for them to run from the police, they had no problem, quick and swift”. DEEP. Where is Keith Lemon with “What’s the message?” when you need um?

The album ends with some mediocre songs again. This is probably my least favourite Lucci album thus far. Some alright songs, one nice one that was only nice because of it’s original, and then one pretty good one. He was more like Lil Wayne than ever before with this one, which is always something I had a feeling was going to happen.

6/10
