Striking is the word choice of one website in which you were able to look up synonyms for and find that "STRIKING" is out of the ordinary
If the word STRIKING wasn't in the definition on dictionary.com your case would fail
& Extraordinary has more than 1 definition, we were obviously looking at 2 definitions
ex·traor·di·nar·y [ik-strawr-dn-er-ee, ek-struh-awr-] Show IPA
adjective
1.
beyond what is usual, ordinary, regular, or established: extraordinary costs.
2.
exceptional in character, amount, extent, degree, etc.; noteworthy; remarkable: extraordinary speed; an extraordinary man.
You were going by definition 1. I was thinking of extraordinary in the sense of definition 2
For me, for a coincidence to be extraordinary it would have to fall more in line with definition 2.
Obviously a coincidence is out of the ordinary because it's not like we wake up and encounter a coincidence with every breath we take, but imo its not extraordinary if it isn't exceptional like the 2nd definition states. & Coincidence CAN be ordinary given the circumstances
If you talk about someone and they walk past you it's a coincidence, but given how frequently it occurs, we even created the phrase "speak of the devil" and that's a phrase that almost everyone uses. The fact that we created a saying specifically for that coincidence must mean it's more ordinary than you think. That's what I was getting at
