The Grand Championship Round One Review!

The first round of the Grand Championship had a few interesting moments. A number of the usual no-shows soured an otherwise excellent round with high voting turn-out and a number of great performances.
So lets now lets get into the best (and worst) of the Grand Championship round one!

Obey Vs Erebus
This battle had pretty much everything going for it. The rookie in a slump, looking for redemption, and the old veteran seeking to validate his letsbeef career. Add to the mix the fact that these two are crewmates, and a that had just had a recent shake in leadership too, meant that this battle was bound to be intriguing. But what really made this battle, was the personal approach both emcees took. All these factors made this battle a close second to Grizz Vs Rican, and also sets up another all-AC's battle in the next round.
---------------
Rican Vs GRizzEAT
As expected, the biggest battle of round one was Rican Vs GRizzEAT, a battle arranged before the tournament draw was made. Both brought there signature styles, with GRizzEAT picking up a massive win by a fairly solid margin, to set-up a mouth-watering clash Vs ILLoKWENT, the LBT Champion who Grizzy was supposed to challenge for his title, before his ban scuppered that battle.
---------------
stricc Vs Dysfunctional
This battle was a sleeper hit, with stricc's audio-cross style and Dysfunctional hungry after a disappointing few months. The result was a very closely contested battle, with Dys edging the audio legend.
---------------
Lockhart Vs Pockets Poppin
Whilst the ending percentage may of been one sided, theres no doubt that both did there thing here. Pockets has been steady rising his profile since he first popped up during a LBT card, and can take solace from this performance against the highly motivated Lockhart, last years finalist.
---------------
Askari Vs CakedOut
Again another battle where the percentages didnt truly reflect the performance of the defeated textcee, with CakedOut testing the legendary Askari in a fierce clash. Caked took up the test and ran with it, whilst Askari showed we he may just be the best active right now.

The Nomad Vs Duh Great Whyte
The only real upset of the first round was definitely The Nomad over Duh Great Whyte. DGW appears to be having problems transitioning back into the text style that requires a better pen game than the live battling scene, and The Nomad brought out a great performance to knock off his heavily favoured foe.

No-shows in a GC first round is an unfortunate tradition on Letsbeef, but the no-shows from Erupt & TalkSick, who contested a GC final against each other not long ago, was perhaps the biggest let down of the lot. In particular the Punk Vs TalkSick battle was highly anticipated, and it was a shame that this old school Vs new school battle never transpired.
