is there a way to check status or anything? to make sure it went through?

Lol what ? To start a battle you press on the battles icon above and press start a battle you can drop it as an open so anybody can take it or as an personal like you send it to specific person to do that you press the closed battle button then type the name of the dude you want to battle...Welcome to LB btw.
