Hip Hop Vs. Rap

whats the difference between Hip Hop and Rap? I have often asked this question but i have never received an unanimous answer; o I'll display the top three answers I've heard through google, rap/hip hop artist and magazines etc,

1) Hip hop is a culture something deeper than just a genre music, its a lifestyle, defined by the way you speak, the clothes you wear, basically a way of life, rap is just a genre of music

2) Hip hop is a more conscious form of music, hip hop artist speak on life in general from world hunger and political issues to intellectual verses that will inspire the youth to strive for excellence, rap is limited to club songs about women,cars, cloths and drugs

3) There is no difference hip hop and rap are one

Post you point of view on the topic how do you see the two as different/the same and why
