Rakim is too underrated
I consider Rakim to be a GOAT, shiet maybe even the true King of rap yet he's so underrated. His flow is unbelievable and the way he comes up with those crazy concepts with those flawless rhyme schemes is an orgasm to ur ear. Rakim > Any other rapper.
"Timeless...so age don't count in the booth, when ya flow stay submerged in the fountain of youth" or look at my siggy, it's from "The Saga Begins", the flow is insane!!!

I personally think he's quite overrated. Don't Sweat The Technique is one of my fav songs from my skating days, and that line from classic is my favourite line from any song all time, but I still didn't feel he was quite to the level of lyricism that people say. There are better rappers out there, and that aside his old music just wasent really to my taste cause I felt that the beats themselves were very basic. I personally really wouldn't put him on NaS's level overall.

I agree that him and Eric B are ground breaking, and some of the most influential of all time, but to me that doesent create GOAT status. If it did, then Michael Jackson is about on the same level as Justin Bieber. To me, he was a pretty good lyricist with some decent music. I think he might have been boosted so much further if he had the point of the Guru, as Gangstarr imo, 100% due to Premo, are better than Eric B and Rakim. But then again, any rapper teaming up with Prem would do much better for themselves.
To me, lyrically, conceptually, musically and artistically, I don't see Rakim matching up to NaS.

And lol @ the greatest Era in rap. The mid 90s are CLEARLY better than the late 80s. I don't see how anyone can contest that.

obviously the 90s were the best era in hip hop...he was the best in the 80s and put out some good albums in the 90s too...your the best when you start off your career and he started in the 80s with paid in full which is easily a top 5 album of all time....nas started out in the 90s with illmatic which is also a top 5 album of all time....yea they say rakim fell off a bit in the 90s but look at nas in the 2000s same thing happens...
if your comparing discographys rakim was more consistant than nas imo but if you took something like the top 50 songs from each and compared than nas would win,its like comparing kobe and michael jordan they were both the greatest of there time but they started from different eras so you cant really compare
there both top 3 of all time but even nas made a song about rakim cuz he himself calls rakim the goat
