Gun Control
What is your take on it? The massive hype around these arguments is only amplifying with the multitude of public shootings going on recently, what do you guys think?
Should we implement gun control laws that prohibit the obtaining of certain firearms?
Or
Should we let people buy, sell, and own what they want, firearms wise?

Make it absolutely insane to obtain a gun. Like background checks that go deep, tests that need to be taken, a certain amount of time being trained in gun safety (kind of like time in a car) etc.
Also, make every gun that isn't a handgun or a rifle illegal to obtain. That's protection and hunting. There is NO scenario where anything otherwise is needed.

Depends on what we are talking about. I see absolutely no problem with a responsible adult (sane, non-convicted-felon) being able to own a weapon, and banning personal ownership of anything more than, say, a hunting rifle. Nobody needs to own an SMG or a repeatable grenade launcher. There needs to be a balance here. Too powerful weapons and you are asking for a rebellion or mass murder, too weak weapons and you have people defenseless from criminals who have them (or not).
The problem to me, though, isn't lack of gun laws at current. It's the failure of the government to actually enforce the ones we already have.

Here's what I find funny.
Believe it or not, gun crime is seemingly huge in Ireland. There is a drive by in the news almost weekly. So it's not beyond the realms of possibility that someone could break into my house with a gun right? I feel 100% safe in knowing that I have a knife sitting next to my bed. What are you guys expecting? A shootout in the hall way. If you are defending your home from intruders with a gun, you will be making sure you're at a close enough range to be able to get your shot off (if they have a gun, because if you miss, they might well not). I'm fine in the feeling that if my life is in danger, and I have to defend my home from intruders, that a knife will do the exact same purpose as a gun would. I'm going to have to sneak up in this person, and I'm going to have to stab the shit out of their neck.
But let's put that to the side. Let's also put aside the fact that gun control severely limits the possibility of an intruder actually having a gun (I'd prefer none of us have a gun than both of us do). How many of you have actually had an armed intruder enter your home? Or let's get more specific. How many of you have had an intruder enter your home where the use of a gun saved your life? I'm going to go out on a limb, and say besides crazy Brazil Danjer over there, none of us have encountered this situation. Someone breaking into houses is probably a junkie looking for some quick money for his next fix. Not an armed professional whom you're going to have to take out Mr. and Mrs. Smith style.

Gun Control is an illusion to make people feel safer. Criminals are Criminals and will always be Criminals unless they want to abide by civil laws. So honestly what the fuck is Gun Control going to do? Nothing.

In America, generally people start drinking around the age of 17/18.
In UK, generally people start drinking around the age of 14/15
This is because the legal age of purchasing alcohol is 18 in the UK, as opposed to 21 in America. This gives vendors a certain leeway with who they are selling to.
Transfer this to guns. You slap serious restrictions of guns, then that will put the squeeze around the necks of people intending to sell guns for illegal purposes. Although, heightening the jail time for importation of illegal weapons will cut down the amount of people willing to take the risk. The last thing is that making possession of an illegal weapon, namely one with the serial number removed, a ridiculously punishable offence.
This will never, EVER, stop crime. But there's a reason I'm not a stuntman. For me, the risk isn't worth the reward.

If i was in a gun fight, id want a gun, not a knife. i thought that was common sense. if your able to sneak up on an intruder then your able to blow his head off...
i agree with Denton, Criminals will always have guns. Citizens should always have the right to own a gun. Most don't even use their guns unless they're hunting or at a shooting range. It's not like everyone with a gun kills someone.
