Track Of The Week
Week Commencing 17/03/14
Punk - MARia II
Punk has been a firm favorite of mine and many others' when it comes to track makers on Letsbeef.com for quite some time now so when he announced the production of a sequel to his infamous 'MARia' track, I must say, I was rather excited.
I'm sure I won't have been the only one eagerly anticipating the release of this track and it didn't disappoint. Although the only sound similarites between the two songs are the 'demonised femenine voice effect' (That's what I'll refer to it as. I'm sure Punk would desccribe it as something comletely different) and the laid back type of beat chosen, the message and mood of the tracks are highly comparable.
I'll admit, I wasn't a fan of the samples used in MARia II. I don't think they helped the song at all. I have no idea where the sampled dialog was sourced from but I feel there could have been so much more out there that would have been a better fit for the track.
With that said, the seemingly effortless flow that Punk brought onto this beat quickly made me forget about the sampled dialog. That shit was as smooth as a newborn's gluteus maximus. I love the chilled/laidback style that he once again produced, I just pulls me in and I can't help but zone out from everything else and just relax to it. Although, I feel that with content such as this, more emotion in the delivery may be required and that's something I would like to see Punk incorporate into his forthcoming work.
Sound/Recording quality aside, there is no denying that Punk is one of the best up and coming recording artists on Letsbeef.com and his potential to build on that so much further is evident. I'm hoping a mixtape or EP will be produced in due time and I'm sure many others are too.
Congrats to @
Punk for winning Track of the Week.
@
