So tomorrow, I will be changing my brake pads and roters by myself for the first time.

I will also be changing my own oil for the first time lol. I heard it's somewhat easy to do. I'm 23 years old and I'm finally starting to learn this shit. I use to pay $60 for an oil change at Valvoline. I was getting robbed so I bought all the tools today. Pan, hand soap, towels, and funnel all for $5.And tomorrow I'm picking up the filter wrench, and other tools for my brakes such as the pads and roters, and the 4-way socket bar.

Some guy came into work saying he spent over 1200 trying to fix his damn car.. New battery, altinator, starter, etc.. I told him to check and see if it's in security lock.. (your shit can shut down if that security lock is triggered. Happened to me while trying to put a radio in.) it was indeed the lock that was preventing his car from starting.

Anyone else mess with cars on their own instead of taking it to shops?

i only do the maintenance aspect myself, (filters, bulbs, oil changes, etc) and the rest for the mechaniczz with the exception of swapping alternators which i can do.

trust , not only do u save doing shit yourself, but it feels good and its a good asset to have under ya belt

Bruh, having the proper tools is the hard part. If you have that you can do almost anything by following a YouTube video.

Funny you post this as I'm booked in for a M.O.T tomorrow. I know for a fact it needs a few things done; brake pads, bulb change & new fuse for the windscreen washer. Hoping it won't cost too much.

Ya I have every tool for the job. I made sure I was prepared for this. It's a huge step up from changing turning signal lights

Yeaaaa Ive done all this shit.. I just take it to the mechanics now. But you do save, if you have the tools. The hard parts trouble shooting alone. You can take it to AutoZone n they'll run codes but won't find out exactly what's wrong. Just where the problems originates. Changing pads and rotors isn't too hard tho. If you're a decent mechanic you'll save a few bucks n can make a little. So pays off to learn if you're mechanically inclined n like working.

Highly recommend learning to fix things on your own, especially cars, that's just practical knowledge.

Learning to drive stick is another big lesson, if an apocalypse goes down you can feel confident you can take any car.
