This thread will detail the criteria that each individual 1-10 text battle rating entails, with information on just exactly why you have been rated at that number by a Fair Voter's Club Member. This will NOT replace expo's, however, if a Fair Voter does not have time to write a full expo or a battler wishes to look into the thought behind the ratings given they can come to this thread for a full, comprehensive explanation.
ALL FVC MEMBERS ARE TO REFER TO THIS SCALE WHEN CASTING VOTES THAT ARE NOT FULLY EXPLAINED.
1 - a verse will be rated 1 when the battle verse shows no real sense of attacking the opponent, very few to no basic punchlines, minimal to zero flow and multi-rhyme schemes, basic vocabulary and a failure to fully grasp the art of text battling.
If you have been rated 1: Try referring to some classic battles and learning about how the site works, how to construct a solid verse and how to attack your opponent effectively. These battles can be found in the Hall Of Fame Stats section of the site. Likewise, check out a few of the current battles on the Letsbeef Text Battle Hotlist for pointers and research.
2 - a verse will be rated a 2 if it has a recognisable flow and basic rhyme scheme, but lacks in any real attack, has a small amount of basic punchlines or concepts and displays little or no creativity (including played punchlines).
If you have been rated 2: Check out current tournament battles or classic text battles for how to pack a punchline and successfully craft a text verse to the current standards.
3 - a verse will be rated a 3 if the verse has a competent flow, but lacks in creativity of concepts and strength of punchlines. Verses show signs of understanding flow and rhyme schemes, but lack in impact and originality.
If you have been rated 3: Take more time over your verses and spent time thinking of creative angles and punchlines to attack your opponent with. Refer to classic battles for pointers.
4 - a verse will be rated a 4 if it shows competent flow and rhyme schemes, but lacks in originality, impact or angles taken ie wording. Wording will be clumsy, and concepts will be played/weak. Similarly, a verse might have ok punchlines, but lack in flow or multi-syllable rhyming technique. Syllables will be mismatched, stretched, or filler overused.
If you have been rated 4: Take more care over your verse to ensure you are being as creative as possible, take care over your rhyming schemes to ensure they match and flow well and rethink any angles that seem clumsy or out of place. Check out battlers such as @reEFer, @UNKNOWN ARTIST and @DaDDiO for classic technique on balancing flow, wording and impact.
5 - a verse will be rated a 5 if the flow and multies are placed well, punchlines are competent and the battler has clearly attacked their opponent. However, these verses generally lack obvious originality, using played or weak punchlines and very basic techniques.
If you have been rated 5: Think longer about punchlines, be ruthless when editing verses (remove/replace any bar you feel is slowing the verse down). Check out battlers such as @RULE and @Jason for how to optimise the impact of punchlines with a creative angle.
6 - a verse will be rated 6 if a clear flow and multi-syllable rhyming scheme has been used throughout, punchlines are well crafted and a small degree of creativity is evident. However, punchlines may be worded poorly, filler multi-rhymes used and no real 'WOW' factor is present.
If you have been rated 6: You are a competent battler, but be careful to cut out filler rhymes and word your verse to optimise direction and strength of punchlines. Try and be more original with your angles. Check out battles by @EJT and @Gurp Da God for tips on how to cut out filler and attack your opponent in an original way.
7 - a verse will be rated 7 if it is a solid flowing verse, with many mid-strong punchlines but perhaps there is a lack of originality, multies have been a little sloppy in places, some punchlines are played or ineffective due to the overall wording or set up of the bar as a whole. Filler multies again evident, but overall wording is relatively tight.
If you have been rated 7: You are a very competent battler, but try to be more original and ensure every multie matches up syllable for syllable. Also, ensure that the angle & set up you take builds well to your punchline to create the best impact possible.
8 - a verse will be rated 8 if all facets of battling are solid and well crafted. However, some punchlines may be clumsily worded and cause a drop in impact. An 8 verse will be above average and display creativity, but lack WOW factor in places.
If you have been rated 8: You are a great battler, and should continue to display originality and push forward in text battling. Be sure to build several angles for every punch to ensure maximum impact is achieved, giving your verse a degree of WOW.
9 - a verse will be rated 9 if it is tight in every way and impresses the reader greatly upon reading. However, a 9 verse may have 1 or 2 filler multies/weaker punchlines letting it down as a whole. The verse should flow brilliantly as a whole article, rather than focussing solely on each individual punchline. Creativity is evident throughout, and a good-advanced vocabulary is evident.
If you have been rated 9: Focus on your verses in their entirety, rather than each individual punchline. Your verse is damn near perfect as it is.
10 - for a verse to be rated 10 it should have extremely effective punchlines, flow fluently and display total originality and creativity. All concepts are solid and well worded, and the verse is constructed brilliantly as a whole.
If you have been rated 10: Congratulations, you are one of the greatest battlers on the site. Keep it up.
NOTE: If a rating is being supplied LESS THAN 7 THEN LINK THE BATTLER TO THIS THREAD FOR A FULL EXPLANATION.
