His soundcloud link is right there bro and his sound quality is nice so I wouldn't automatically dismiss his advice. The snowball is ok if you're using it for battles and to start out wit on tracks. You could've gotten the AT2020 for a buck. I have it in my collection and prefer it over a few of my more expensive mics. Ill link you to some tracks done with it if you're interested.

As far as filters go, I recommend the metal one that you can clean periodically unless you like being face to face with a bacteria colony when you spit
