ILLMANIA II - Dead Poet Society Vs Goon Squad
The Beginning
The fued between these two crews was born after the summer of 2011. RhetoriKaL brought back the Dead Poet Society for one last run, whilst GRiizEAT elevated the unoffical collective of emcees known as the 'Goon Squad' into a full blown crew. With both crews starting (or re-starting) at the same time a undercurrent of rivalry was unavoidable. Words and warning shots were fired across by both sides and peaked at the beginning of the All Star Text Tournament that began in November of 2011. At this time the two leaders, founders and figureheads of the two crews: RhetoriKaL & GRiizEAT, approached RULE wishing the engage in a battle between the two crews under the format of ILLMANIA. The two leaders crafted and agreed to a battle card and the even began after the All Star tourney began winding down.
The Aftermath
The result came as somewhat of a suprise to many, since Dead Poet Society appeared to be the strongest roster on paper. A number of no-shows from each side also let there respective crews down (However those battles DID eventually take place, with the winners by DQ actually winning by result too, so the results of the event are an accurate reflection) so Goon Squad came away as worthy winners. The real legacy of ILLMANIA II however will be the youtube battle contested by Fiji Osa and DiSSiZiT, the first of its kind and the most acclaimed match-up of the event. ILLMANIA II went down to the wire, but Goon Squad proved victorious.
