Good for you KK. I've heard that weed affects different people in different ways when they smoke it. I suspect the same is true when people try to quit. For that reason, I don't think things would go as smoothly for everyone as it did for you if they tried to quit cold turkey in the same way. Contrary to popular belief, weed is addictive, at least for some people, and the withdrawal symptoms vary.
Case in point: a few years ago, I had convinced one of my boys to give up marijuana. There were a lot of things going on in his life at that particular moment, including not getting enough sleep and other stress factors. But to make a long story short, he started hallucinating and he ended up in the psych ward. I'm not blaming that entirely on him giving up weed, but when I researched the withdrawal symptoms from THC, one of the effects that quitting it can have that was listed was schizophrenia. I think his lack of sleep combined with other stressful things that were going on in his life at the time played a role, but him also trying to give up weed cold turkey when prior to that he was a heavy smoker also was a factor. Ever since that happened, I've never try to convince anyone to give up weed again. But it's good to hear a story of it going well though.
