Its true that it COULD have been him on that other website. However, it also COULD have been a lot of things going on. I find it strange that someone would, on their first battle, use a wack verse that's not even a battle verse, word for word (double spaced) in a text box that's not even filled a quarter of the way.
1) It's possible that it wasn't the same person, and this person may have just copied some random verse just to test how our text battles work or for some other reason. As ridiculous as that may sound, its not that much more ridiculous than someone recycling THAT kind of verse for a text battle.
2) Even if it was him, it would be recycling and that is against the rules.
As far as whether he should have been given a warning first, that is discretionary and I give warnings first most of the time if the person hasn't received infractions before. As mods, we're often expected to use our own discretion and better judgement, and in this case, I felt like that wasn't something we needed here. If you would have given him a warning first on the basis that it COULD have been him on that other site, that's fine...and if you would have been the mod who first handled that situation, perhaps you would have handled it differently.
But my biggest issue with this is are we really going to get into the habit or circumventing and undermining each other, particularly in public? Not only did you undermine my decision with the comments you made on that battle, you also went and un-banned someone who I felt should have been banned without even approaching me about the situation first and telling me why you think he should be un-banned.
You're right that there is no proof that it isn't him on that other website, however, there is proof that he used lyrics from another website, regardless of whether it was him or not.
I will ask that you PLEASE not do anything like this again without talking to me first.
