Creativity is ultimately what it's about. Topical battles are about displaying creativity and the ability to convey a message or way of thinking regarding a certain topic. It's almost philosophy if you will: an individuals interpretation of a certain idea (the idea being the picture given). It should tell a story, or at least carry the reader along a distinct line of thought progressively. It is in NO WAY about punchlines or attacking your opponent, it's about displaying creativity, poetic technique, imagery, vocabulary and the ability to connect with a reader through clever writing. There were no unfair votes on this battle as far as I'm concerned, but I will investigate further when I have more time.
